Thanks to Marina Outwater for her photograph, “ALBERTO” from her photo essay, “The Colors of Oaxaca”.
Photographer’s Statement:
“I am a middle school teacher who traveled to Oaxaca, Mexico for a month in the summer of 2014 to study Meso-American culture and history. It was the daily interactions with street vendors, the vivid colors of the crumbling walls, the sound of the brass band, and the taste of the chapaulines that stayed with me long after I returned home.
Alberto was selling little clay figurines at Monte Alban, a magnificent pre-Columbia archaeological site in Oaxaca, Mexico. Alberto had to travel far to dig for the special clay he used to make his figures.”
