Artist’s Statement
My concept is wondering. It’s a word that has taken the place of “wandering” for me in a traditional sense, as that is a given in my daily life now. Traveling with a full artist’s kit can cumbersome and so I (on a whim) began working in journal pages; lines bisecting my images in the background, some images accompanied by my poetry or my own personal thoughts. It is the honesty of this that has really centered me in my work – sharing pages with words that were never intended to be revealed to anyone. I stumbled upon this method during a trip I took last year, and ever since then, have felt at home in this medium.
The two images attached are fitting book ends – the first, “Venezia at 1:35” is the first image to appear in this particular travel journal, and the second, “Mont at Mid-Morning” is the last.
