Artist Statement:
When I planned my trip to Antigua, Guatemala, I knew I would be shopping for the traditional handwoven textiles so popular there. I brought along my camera as I also wanted to capture the beauty of the Mayan women wearing their colorful and traditional huipils (blouses), cortes (skirts), and cintas (hair ribbons). I was not disappointed. The women and children loved to have their photos taken and smiled and posed for me. I was even happy to purchase one of their intricate textiles for a photo, as I knew it took the women hours, days, and even months to complete the weavings.
